The 64 Faces of Awakening
(a 4-part video series)
The Living Arts Playback Theatre Ensemble is a troupe of improvisational actors and musicians who “play back” personal stories shared by audience members in ways that both honor and illuminate the original experience. Created by Armand Volkas, (a psychotherapist, drama therapist, and beloved mentor/friend of mine), this wonderful Theatre Ensemble, in collaboration with The Healing the Wounds of History Project, has received international acclaim for its work in bringing groups in conflict together such as Germans and Jews; Palestinians and Israelis; Japanese, Chinese and Koreans on their legacy of WWII and Armenians and Turks.
I had the great honor of bringing the 64 Faces of Awakening (the Wisdom Keepers) to the Living Arts Playback Theatre Ensemble's rehearsal, in Oakland, CA. I had no idea what to expect when I came to the rehearsal. I just brought some printed out images of the Wisdom Keepers and a willingness to share my story. I was so profoundly moved by the improvised reflections that emerged during our time together that I feel compelled to share some of them with you.
